Mamas’ Drama is a contemporary stage play written by Columbus native, Nanette Hodge, creatively known as Nanette Marie. It debuted in 2011 at The Columbus Performing Arts Center, and was juried and performed at The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival, The DC Black Theatre Festival, the National Black Theatre Festival and the 2015 Columbus Arts Festival.
This play shows how the generational curse of the “mama’s baby, daddy’s maybe” dilemma (father’s identity is uncertain) affects four generations, and cries out stories most people only whisper. Millie shares a secret with daughter, Josephine about the true identity of her father. Josephine marries but later becomes involved in extramarital affairs. This compelling drama takes place from 1929-2004. Based on a true story, Mamas’ Drama is adapted from the book, Mamas’ Drama by Nanette Marie.
