Last year, Lay’s ran a contest where they introduced new potato chip flavors. When it was all said and done, cheesy garlic bread won and is now a part of the Lay’s chip family. A chip for those people who don’t want to go to the trouble of actually making cheesy garlic bread to consume on their own.
They’ve got a new round of contenders this year. Cheddar bacon mac and cheese, wasabi ginger, mango salsa and…cappuccino. Stop it. Please. Stop making crazy flavored potato chips. I can honestly say I’ve never enjoyed a cappuccino and wondered to myself, “Hmm…I wonder what this would taste like if it was a potato chip?”
If I want some mango salsa, I’ll make it. And if mac and cheese with cheddar bacon is desired, I’m sure I’ll continue to do fine with the good folks from Kraft. Who knows? Maybe they own Lay’s Potato Chips and they’re all in cahoots.
My point is this: I like potato chips. Crisp, salty, regular potato chips. Kettle cook them if you want. Make them wavy. Make them all the same size and put them in a can and call them “potato crisps” but STOP making crazy chip flavors of foods and now apparently “beverages” that I would much rather have in their original form. But I guess after they let a “barbeque chip” out of Pandora’s Box of snacks, anything and everything was up for grabs.
Lay’s slogan is correct on some level. I seldom can eat “just one.” But with the other wacky stuff they’re putting out, I can honestly say, “I’ll eat none.”
