Alston named All Big Ten

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye sophomore Ameryst Alston has been named to the 2014 First Team All-Big Ten Women’s Basketball team by the coaches and the media.

This marks the 10th consecutive season that at least one Buckeye has earned first team honors and Alston is the 12th overall selection since 2005.

Joining Alston was junior guard Raven Ferguson, who earned honorable mention honors by the media, the conference office announced Monday.

Redshirt junior Amy Scullion was Ohio State’s recipient of the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship Award.

Alston finished the regular season third in the conference with 20.3 points per game, shooting 45.1 percent from the field and 83.2 percent from the free throw line. The guard led the team with 99 assists and 36 steals.

She is second on the team with 33 three-pointers.

The Buckeyes are the No. 8 seed in the upcoming Big Ten tournament at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and will face No. 9 Northwestern (Noon Thursday/ BTN).
