Another campus alert

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A stronger security presence will be visible again today on the Ohio State University campus after a threat of violence was posted online.

University police say the comment on a chat site this past weekend referred to a shooting or explosive device at a campus cafeteria.

It’s the second such threat in less than a week, but OSU officials can’t say yet if they’re related.

Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies have joined OSU police in their investigation.

An alert sent out by university police Sunday night said authorities had information, originating from a chat site, that referenced “a potential threat of shooting or explosive violence focused on a ‘cafeteria’ or other unspecified area of campus,”

Extra police and security personnel will be posted around campus dining facilities, the alert said.

Authorities are asking anyone in the campus area to reporting any suspicious persons, behavior or packages by calling 911 or 292-2121.

Updates will be posted on the university website.
