Boy struck, killed; no charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No charges will be filed against the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed an eight-year-old Logan County boy yesterday morning.

Colton Furrow was crossing N. Detroit Street with his brother when he was struck by a GMC truck driven by Gene Rainsburg, 52, of Kenton who stopped at the scene and tried to keep the boy alive with CPR until paramedics arrived, West Liberty police chief Shane Oelker said.

Colton was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine where he was pronounced dead, Oelker said.

Witnesses told investigators the boys were not in a marked crosswalk when they tried to cross the street in heavy traffic north of the intersection of E. Newell Street and Detroit Street just before 10:00 a.m., Oelker said.
