Fire damages warehouse

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Arson investigators were on the scene of a fire in an empty warehouse south of downtown Columbus this morning.

No injuries were reported in the fire at the one-time home of Borchers Carpet Cleaning, 762 S. Front Street, Firefighter William Ehrgood, Columbus Division of Fire spokesman, said.

Firefighters found flames shooting out of the roof of the building when they arrived shortly before 4:00 a.m. and went into a “defensive mode,” Ehrgood said.

Arson investigators were called to the scene but had not begun their probe early Monday morning because hot spots made it too dangerous.

Ehrgood says fire officials were led to believe the building was sometimes used by squatters.
