Kidnap/rape suspect arrested

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A man accused of car-jacking two women and assaulting one of them was arrested Thursday night.

SWAT officers took Shakir Gant into custody on two counts of kidnapping and one count of rape.

Gant, 22, allegedly got into a vehicle at the intersection of N. James Road and E. Broad Street at approximately 3:00 a.m. Thursday and ordered the two women inside, ages 19 and 20, to drive around, detectives with the Sexual Assault Unit said.

At some point, Gant ordered one of the women out of the car and made the other keep driving until she drove into an alley, where Gant allegedly sexually assaulted her, then fled on foot, investigators said.
