Man charged in standoff

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Columbus man is due in court today, facing charges after a standoff on the Northeast Side.

Officers were called to a Fitzroy Place apartment complex yesterday when a resident smashed the rental office door then holed up inside his apartment.

Neighbors were evacuated when James Smith claimed he had guns and explosives inside.

SWAT officers were able to convince Smith to surrender after several hours.
