Ohio insurance premiums remain low

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite some predictions that the cost of insurance would rise because of major weather events in the past few years, Ohioans are still paying among the lowest homeowner and auto insurance premiums in the nation.

According to 2010 data, the most recent available from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Ohioans paid the ninth lowest average auto insurance premium of $619, up from 10th in 2009, the Ohio Department of Insurance said in a release Wednesday.

Ohio’s average homeowner’s insurance premium of $624 ranked sixth nationally.

Ohioans pay $295 less for homeowners insurance than the US average.

The average premium increased $1.00 from the 2009 average.
