Visitors to Florida’s Lowry Park Zoo got to peek at a rare baby pygmy hippopotamus.

Staff members have been keeping track of the baby hippo since she was born in November, and they said she is gaining weight and moving around independently.

Pygmy hippos are about the size of a large human infant when they are born, but they can grow to weigh between 350 and 550 pounds. They are extremely rare in the wild, with a population of only a few thousand. Currently most of the species lives in Liberia in West Africa.
