Concert at the Classic | Sunday, September 24th | 3:30pm
20th anniversary event to culminate with concert by multi-platinum and Grammy nominated recording artist, actor and award winning songwriter.
Nick Jonas will return to The New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix & Family Day as the headlining artist for this year’s Concert at The Classic. In its 20th year as the primary fundraiser for The Center for Family Safety and Healing, The Classic is celebrating having raised $30 million to date by featuring one of the country’s most talented, chart-topping performers. With Jonas as the featured act the tickets to hear him in this intimate environment are expected to sellout early.
Jonas launched his career as a solo artist after releasing his self-titled debut album in November 2014. The critically-acclaimed album includes the double-platinum and No. 1 U.S. radio hit, “Jealous” and his hot radio hit single, “Chains,” that quickly topped charts. His sophomore solo album Last Year Was Complicated, launched as the No. 1 selling album of the week with the platinum track “Close” featuring Tove Lo. Jonas has been named on Forbes’ coveted “30 Under 30’” list and has won multiple awards including “iHeartRadio International Artist of the Year” in 2016.
His appearance comes full circle as Jonas was the first to perform in the now traditional Concert at The Classic in 2007 as a member of the Jonas Brothers just as the group began its meteoric rise to pop stardom. The Concert at The Classic became an incredibly successful music series boasting the hottest pop and crossover acts each year. The list of past performers is impressive with artists like Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, Kelsea Ballerini, Fifth Harmony, AJR, Timeflies, and Jordin Sparks, among others.
In making the announcement, Abigail Wexner, founder and host of The Classic said, “Our 20th anniversary seemed like the perfect moment to ramp up the event to say thank you to the thousands of people who turn out year after year for this important cause.”
“The Classic is about families and what better way to celebrate healthy families than enjoying one of the most popular performers on the music scene today. It is such a bonus that Nick Jonas just happens to be one of the talents that started our concert series 10 years ago thanks to our partners at Justice. We cannot wait to welcome him back to New Albany.”
Brian Rogers, Justice’s SVP of human resources and philanthropy agrees.
“Justice has been proud to partner with The Classic over the past 10 years for good reason,” said Rogers. “We know the value of giving back to our community and the importance of this cause. We’re confident Nick’s performance will generate excitement, attendance, and most importantly, revenue for The Center for Family Safety and Healing.”
The concert culminates a day-long family festival that draws 15,000 people to the Wexner home in New Albany to celebrate healthy families and raise funds for the work of The Center for Family Safety and Healing. In addition to the concert, amusement rides, sports experiences, car displays and hands on activities, the event brings the only FEI-sanctioned CSI2* grand prix competition to the state of Ohio. Thirty of the world’s top competitors and their mounts, including Olympic medal winners and World Cup winners, compete for $125,000 in prize money and the Authentic Cup during the event, adding a truly unique element to the already action-packed day.
Presented by JPMorgan Chase & Co. gates open for The Classic at 10 a.m. with the opening ceremonies launching at noon followed by the Grand Prix competition at 12:30 p.m. The event will conclude with the celebratory Concert at The Classic beginning at 3:30 p.m. Family day activities and food trucks will be present throughout the entirety of The Classic until it concludes at 5 p.m.
