It’s hard not to laugh when you hear the grunts and snores of a bulldog or see the inquisitive look on a shih-tzu’s face — and this month, your laughter can actually support these dogs at the second annual Bull Shih-tz Comedy Show fundraiser. Hosted by Buckeye Bulldog Rescue, in conjunction with Ohio Fuzzy Paws Shih-tzu Rescue, the event will raise the funds necessary to continue and expand bulldog and shih-tzu rescue efforts in Ohio.

Presented by VCA Sawmill Animal Hospital, the black-tie-optional event will take place Saturday, February 23, from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at the Columbus Athenaeum. The night will feature a cocktail hour, dinner, open bar, dancing and live entertainment, including stand-up comedy acts from comedians Brooke Cartus, Nate Washington and Chris Coeh. Raffles and games will also be available, boasting exciting prizes including a Las Vegas getaway, Kate Spade merchandise, a VIP tour of the Columbus Zoo and more.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Buckeye Bulldog Rescue and its mission of helping and homing English and French Bulldogs in Ohio. Entering its sixth year, Buckeye Bulldog Rescue has rescued over 500 bulldogs and is rapidly growing, with a 30-percent increase in intakes in 2018 alone. Currently operating as a foster network staffed by volunteers, Buckeye Bulldog Rescue hopes to establish a dedicated facility, which would allow difficult-to-adopt dogs to live in a home-like environment while working with trainers and veterinarians to help them achieve their full potential.

“We are dedicated to helping in-need bulldogs, but the cost of rehabilitating these dogs can quickly become overwhelming,” said Jessica Potting, president of Buckeye Bulldog Rescue. “We rely solely on donations, and so are excited to present such an entertaining evening and have some fun while we raise money to make our work possible.”
