The Heart Hope Foundation is pleased to invite you to our inaugural event on March 7, 2014 at The Blackwell Inn.

The event, “Saving Lives of Heart Patients Through Genetic Testing,” will feature internationally-renowned scientist Dr. Peter Mohler, Ph.D., nationally-renowned genetic counselor, Amy Sturm, MS, CGC and inherited heart disease survivor Ben Weisbuch. Ben suffered more than 135 sudden cardiac events. Genetic testing and research saved his life.

Please register early for this March 7th event via the Columbus Foundation website by entering “Heart Hope Foundation” in the Fund Name box and “March 7th Event” in the special instructions box. The cost of the dinner at the Blackwell is $60 a person.

Dr. Peter Mohler is a research scientist and the Director of the Ohio State University Davis Heart & Lung Research Institute. Amy Sturm is a genetic counselor at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine. They are practicing 22nd century science and pushing frontiers to save lives.

About Ben Weisbuch: Over the past four years, Ben endured over 135 events of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Doctors across the world could not fix him—and after 6 heart surgeries, 3 comas, liver and kidney failure, sepsis, concussions, torturous pain and 6 internal defibrillators, Ben and his wife, Miranda, almost lost all hope. In one last desperate attempt, Ben and Miranda consulted Peter Mohler and Amy Sturm. Using genetic testing and research, they provided Ben a new lease on life – a personalized miracle drug. Genetic medicine stabilized his heart, restoring his ability to work and live a normal life. Their two-year old son, Maccabee was tested – fortunately he does not have Ben’s deadly genetic disease. HHF’s vision is to live in a world without inherited heart disease. It is through the generosity of people like you that the Heart Hope Foundation will be able to save lives and share more stories of survival like Ben’s.

HHF subsidizes the out-of-pocket costs for individuals to get their genetics tested and provides micro-grants for game-changing genetic cardiac research. Like Ben, if you are a heart patient, or have heart disease in your family, you certainly want to know about possible treatments and the risk factors of heart disease.
