Whitehall: Jason Thomas

Sergeant Jason Thomas from Whitehall is the true meaning of a hero.  On the morning of september 11, 2001, Jason, having recently left active military duty was living just outside of New York City.  When he was informed of the planes striking the World Trade Center towers Jason put on his Marine uniform and quickly sprung into action.  While others felt it was too dangerous, Jason, along with another Marine, organized a search and rescue mission at Ground Zero.  With nothing but flashlights and shovels, Jason rescued two port authority police officers who had been buried alive for over 13 hours.  To honor those who perished on September 11th, Jason formed the non-profit organization Heroes Helping Humanity and each year they hold a memorial ceremony near the anniversary of 9/11.

Sergeant Jason Thomas’ heroic actions and dedication to our country truly make him a hometown hero!
