Murder at the drive-thru

COLUMBUS – Police have named no suspects in the deadly shooting of a man found lying near the drive-thru of a Southeast Side fast-food restaurant early Wednesday.

Officers called to the McDonalds at 2520 S. Hamilton Road on a report of a shooting at approximately 1:15 a.m. found Zachary Hoeft, 28, lying between the drive-thru ordering stations, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Homicide Unit Sgt. Jeffrey Strayer said.

Hoeft was taken to Mt. Carmel East Hospital in critical condition and died at 1:49 a.m., Strayer said

The initial investigation has been unable to uncover any motive or suspects. The investigation continues.

This is the 79th homicide in Columbus in 2019.
