COLUMBUS, Ohio – Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohio University Student Senate was quiet, compared with last week’s session, but not without controversy.
Attendance was limited to 150 people by university police and bags were subject to search, according to a notice from university police one week after four students were arrested for disturbing a meeting of the student governing body.
The senate has been in turmoil since its president dumped a bucket of water, tinted to look like blood, over her head in protest of what she said was the university’s support of Israel. The video-recorded move was in response to the university president’s challenge as part of the recent ALS fundraising campaign.
The groups’ treasurer resigned last night, citing recent “headlines” and “scandals” as some of the reasons, according to a report in the Athens Post.
During the open forum at the conclusion of the meeting, some students called for president Megan Marzec to resign, the newspaper reported.
