COLUMBUS – Columbus police say a woman was killed on the South Side Sunday night and a man who ran from the apartment where she was found has been charged with murder.
Officers who went to the apartment on Lockhurst Road at 6:10 p.m. Sunday following reports of a fight between a man and a woman encountered Gervonta Thompson trying to flee the scene, homicide detectives said.
While searching the apartment, officers found Takasha Byers, 31, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus fire paramedics.
Thompson, 23, was apprehended nearby, taken to Grant Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries and was charged with murder when he was released, police said.
Police say a man whose body was found inside a North Linden home Thursday night had been murdered.
Officers asked to check on the well-being of someone who lived in the Hiawatha Street home at 5;54 p.m. Thursday found, Allan Beatty, unresponsive, detectives said.
Beatty, 50, was pronounced dead and Columbus homicide detectives, along with investigators from the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined he had been the victim of a homicide.
There was no immediate word of suspects or motives.
