Accused terrorist trained “associates” in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Search warrants show a Columbus man accused of aiding terrorists misled authorities about his identity and tried to have his brother’s martyrdom photo on Facebook deleted to avoid police scrutiny.

The search warrants also allege that Abdirahman Sheik Mohamud trained two “associates” in Ohio on how to shoot guns after he allegedly trained with terrorists in Syria.

The warrants, recently unsealed following Mohamud’s April 16 indictment, also say he communicated with his brother online about supporting terrorism.

Records show Mohamud’s brother, also from Ohio, died in Syria last year while fighting with a State Department-designated terrorist group.

Mohamud is accused of receiving terrorism training on weapons, combat and tactics in Syria.

Mohamud has pleaded not guilty. His attorney has described him as “a normal 23-year-old kid.”
