COLUMBUS – Police arrested a 41-year-old suspect in a domestic violence incident on the grounds of an East Side Columbus school Thursday morning after he fled there with his victim and a firearm, police said.
Officers responding to a domestic violence complaint at 8:49 a.m. were told by the victim that the suspect, Rondell Lamar Lightfoot Sr., would be driving to the Africentric Early College
K-12 school in the 3200 Block of Allegheny Avenue with the victim, according to detectives with the Columbus police Gun Crimes Unit.
After officers arrived at the school following the call from the victim, Lightfoot noticed the officers and got out of his vehicle, attempting to flee the scene on foot and was apprehended after attempting to discard suspected drugs that he had on his person, police said.
Police later determined that Lightfoot had a stolen handgun in the vehicle.
Lightfoot was charged with having weapons under disability
because he is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, police said.
He was also charged with domestic violence and assault and police say additional charges are pending.
Man jailed in girlfriend’s death
A man is in jail, charged with shooting his girlfriend to death early Friday morning at the East Side home they shared, police said.
Javier Inirio, 30, was arrested after officers dispatched to the 600 Block of Kimball Place on the report of a shooting at 7:10 a.m. found 24-year-old Josephine Banks suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, Columbus police Homicide Unit detectives said.
Banks died later at a hospital and Inirio was arrested and taken to the Franklin County Jail.
