LOUISVILLE – A ninth-inning Columbus rally fell short and the Clippers fell to the Louisville Bats 7-5 at Louisville Slugger Field Friday night.
Trailing 7-2, the Clippers scored three runs, capped off by Will Brennan’s two-out double to left, which brought Oscar Mercado around from first base to cut the lead to two runs but Ricky Karcher got Brayan Rocchio to hit a ground ball to Leonardo Rivas at second base to end the game.
Karcher’s first save of the season preserved the win for Deck McGuire (4-4).
Tanner Tully (8-4) gave up six runs on 12 hits, including a two-run home run to Juniel Querecuto and a solo shot to TJ Hopkins, to get the loss.
George Valera hit a solo home run for the Clippers.
