Book details Ohio’s presidential politics history

COLUMBUS – Ohio’s top elections official and its official historical society have teamed up to produce a book on the state’s role in presidential politics, which Secretary of State Jon Husted hopes will someday be found in Ohio classrooms.

Husted Tuesday announced the publication of Ohio: Pathway to the Presidency, a free Apple iBook that features the Ohio’s impact on national politics, intended as a tool to educate and engage young people in the process.

“This is a new and innovative way we can approach our young people and lay the groundwork for civic engagement among Ohio’s future decision-makers,” Husted said.

Available through the Apple Store, the book features chapters on the eight former U.S. Presidents from Ohio and information on why the state is so crucial in the race to the White House.

The Ohio History Connection provided historical documents, viewable in the book, and gathered and fact-checked information on the presidents.

The book was produced at no cost to the taxpayer through a partnership between Husted’s staff and Jason LaMar of Columbus State Community College, an Apple Distinguished Educator, who designed the book.

Husted says his office will work with schools and educators this fall to implement the use of the book in curricula.
