Brother, sister killed in crash while fleeing traffic stop

COLUMBUS — An adult brother and sister were killed and two children injured when their car ran off the road and crashed while fleeing from a traffic stop on the East Side early Sunday.

UPDATE 12/11/18 3:48 a.m.: The sheriff’s office has identified the children involved in this incident.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:25 a.m. on James Road south of Livingston Avenue after the car’s driver took off from a traffic stop at a high rate of speed and apparently lost control of the vehicle, Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said.

The 2006 blue BMW 325I drove through several yards before it rolled rolled and the driver, identified as Tavaughn Collins, 27, of Columbus, and the front-seat passenger, Olivia Collins, seat were ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, Baldwin said.

Tavaughn Collins did not have a valid driver’s license and had a warrant for driving under suspension.

He and Olivia Collins, 25,were brother and sister, Baldwin said.

Two children in car seats in the back of the vehicle — 2-year-old Zariya Brown and 1-year-old Zaaki Brown — were taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in stable condition, Baldwin said.

The relationship between the children and the Collinses was not immediately released.

The crash remains under investigation.
