COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tyler Cloyd wrote a page of Columbus sports history Wednesday, pitching the first-ever nine-inning no-hitter at Huntington Park, shutting down the Louisville Bats in a 13-0 win that widened the Clippers’ lead in the International League West.
Cloyd (9-5) had a perfect game through eight innings, hitting one batter but bouncing back with a double play ball and clinched the first nine inning no-hitter for Columbus since 2011 on a liner to second base.
With Louisville’s loss the Clippers extended their IL West lead to two and a half games.
Columbus could’ve stopped batting after the first when Jesus Aguilar knocked in two runs on a double that extended his hit streak to 10 games.
The Clippers scored two more in the third, five in the seventh and four more in the eighth.
Game two of the series will be at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
