Jetliner makes emergency landing

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No one was reported injured when a passenger jetliner made an emergency landing at Port Columbus International Airport Tuesday night, according to an airport spokesperson.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., Southwest Airlines Flight #9015, bound from Baltimore to Chicago Midway International Airport radioed the Port Columbus tower to notify personnel of an “Alert 2” because an indicator reported a possible fire in the plane’s cargo hold, Columbus Regional Airport Authority spokesman David Whitaker said.

The jetliner, with 49 passengers and five crew members aboard, made a safe landing at Port Columbus about 15 minutes after the radio call and the passengers were evacuated, Whitaker said.

An inspection turned up no noticeable indication of a fire but the aircraft is still be evaluated by the airline, Whitaker said.

The passengers were transported via shuttle to the terminal where they boarded another Southwest flight early Wednesday morning and continued on to Chicago, Whitaker said.
