Newark murder suspect arrested in Reynoldsburg

COLUMBUS – The man authorities were seeking in connection with a Newark murder was arrested after a brief struggle in a Reynoldsburg home Sunday night.

Newark police detectives with the assistance of the Licking County Sheriff’s Office and the Reynoldsburg Police Department arrested Glenn Priest, 29, of Johnstown, at a home on Papillon Avenue late Sunday night for the murder of Jesse Moffitt Friday night, Newark Division of Police spokesman Sgt. Doug Wells said.

Newark police responding to a report of multiple gunshots at a home on 88 Hancock Street at 11:02 p.m. Friday found Moffitt, 45, of Newark, dead from an apparent gunshot wound, Wells said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday by the Licking County Coroner’s Office, Wells said.

Detectives were able to determine that Priest was at a home on Papillon Avenue in Reynoldsburg, Wells said.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office STAR Team was activated and made entrance into the residence at 11:32 p.m. Wells says, after a short struggle, Priest was tased and taken into custody.

The investigation continues and Wells says the findings will be present to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office for further action.

Billie Messer was arrested on a felony charge of obstructing justice related to the incident, Wells said.
