COLUMBUS – Ohio State has announced the Chris Holtmann has been hired as the new head men’s basketball coach, replacing Thad Matta who departed Monday after 13 years.
Holtmann, who has coached Butler for three seasons, has agreed to an eight-year contract worth about $3 million annually, OSU Athletics Director Gene Smith said.
Final details of the deal are being finalized and will be released at a later date.
The Bulldogs advanced to the NCAA Tournament in all three seasons with Holtmann at the helm.
He compiled a record of 70-31 as a member of the Big East conference, including a 25-9 record a year ago.
