COLUMBUS, Ohio – A North Side man who says he answers to no government authority will be in a courtroom today to answer to weapons charges.
Deputies who went to evict Mark Kulis made a shocking discovery inside his Carolyn Drive home yesterday morning: They found explosive devices, rambling writings on the wall and the oven booby-trapped to explode, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said.
Several area homes were evacuated while the bomb squad detonated the devices.
Scott tells The Columbus Dispatch that, in writings on the walls and ceiling of house Kulis, 55, claimed to be a “sovereign citizen” who recognizes no government authority and is not obligated to pay taxes or follow most laws.
Kulis was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and manufacturing explosives. Deputies said Kulis had a loaded handgun when he was arrested at a car wash near his home.
Attorney information wasn’t available.
