COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman has turned to a veteran of the public legal and safety systems to lead the city’s Department of Public Safety.
Coleman Tuesday announced he was appointing George Speaks as director, replacing Mitchell Brown. Speaks had been serving as interim director since Brown retired earlier this fall after leading the department for more than 14 years.
Speaks began serving as a deputy director under Brown in 2005.
Prior to that, he served as Deputy Administrator for Franklin County and as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Franklin County Prosecutors Ron O’Brien and Mike Miller.
