Stuck truck

COLUMBUS – You know how easy it can be to take a wrong turn when you’re in a strange town.

That’s what happened to a semi-truck driver Thursday morning with the result that his truck ended up wedged under a bridge on a pedestrian-bike trail.

The driver drove onto the Olentangy and struck two bridges before becoming wedged under the second one the bridge at I-670 and SR 315, north of Spring Street, according to social media posts from the Columbus Division of Police and the Ohio Department of Transportation.

The driver told investigators he was headed to the Greater Columbus Convention Center downtown at about 9:00 a.m. when exited the northbound lanes of Route 315 onto Spring Street, only to realize he made a mistake, and then mistook the smaller Olentangy Trail for an entrance ramp back onto Route 315, according to a report in the Columbus Dispatch.

ODOT bridge inspectors are on scene.

Police cited the driver for reckless operation and failure to follow a traffic control device, the newspaper said.

There was no word of any injuries, other than perhaps to pride.
