COLUMBUS – A 19-year-old man is under arrest for the murder of another man inside a South Side duplex Thursday.
Devin Michael Tirey is charged with murder in the shooting death of Tyquan Keeshawn Hawkins-Scruggs, 20, gunned down inside a home on Barthman Avenue, homicide unit Sgt. Dave Sicilian said.
Police officers and fire personnel dispatched to the area of S. Washington and E. Barthman Avenues at 12:03 p.m. Thursday on a report of a shooting found Hawkins-Scruggs at an address on the corner of E. Barthman Avenue and S. 9th Street suffering from a gunshot wound, Sicilian said.
He was taken to Grant Medical Center where he died at approximately 12:36 p.m., Sicilian said.
Witnesses told investigators there were several people inside the duplex when Keeshawn-Hawkins was shot and they fled from the scene, Sicilian said.
Tirey was arrested a short time later, he said.
This is the 42nd Homicide in Columbus in 2017.
