Teens recovering after being injured in separate shootings

COLUMBUS – Columbus police say five teenagers were shot in separate incidents over the weekend.

A 14-year-old girl was critically injured in a shooting in a Northeast Side home shortly before 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting in the 3600 block of Homestead Drive found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body, said Det. Steve Miller of the Felony Assault Unit.

Miller says she was hit by a single gunshot fired from inside the home.

She was taken to a hospital where she still remains in critical condition.

No suspects were named and the incident is still under investigation.

There were also no suspects identified in the shooting of a 17-year-old boy Saturday afternoon in an apartment on the Northeast Side.

Police found the victim at another location, but determined that he had been shot during an argument at approximately 4:37 p.m. in an apartment in the 3200 block of Morse Road, Det. Derek Corbin said.

The victim was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower body.

The incident is still under investigation.

Early Monday morning, three more teenage victims were shot in North Linden.

Just before 2:00 a.m., officers dispatched to the 1600 Minnesota Avenue on a report that one person was shot in the leg, but when they arrived they located spent shell casings but no victims, Sgt. Eric Pilya said.

About 20 minutes later Kendale Mardis, 18, and a 17-year-old arrived at Ohio State East Medical Center suffering from gunshot wounds to the legs. They are both in stable condition and will survive, Pilya said

At approximately 2:04 am, 18-year-old Kavon Kendrick was shot one time in the arm while in the same area and to a location on Republic Avenue for help.
