Veterans Day

COLUMBUS – The Veteran Day holiday is observed Wednesday, which means some government office closings and no mail delivery.

State, country and federal offices close in observance of the holiday, but city of Columbus offices remain open, for the most part, and trash will be picked up on schedule.

Governor John R. Kasich and Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor issued a resolution Tuesday recognizing November 11, 2015 as Veterans Day.

People are gathering at memorials across Europe to pay tribute to the millions of soldiers killed during World War I on the 97th anniversary of the war’s end.

Thousands of people lined Paris’ Champs Elysees boulevard to see President Francois Hollande lay a wreath at the Arc de Triomphe, where an eternal flame marks France’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Smaller ceremonies are being held across France.
