World’s first beer hotel opens in Canal Winchester

COLUMBUS – BrewDog is hoping to “tap” into an underserved niche audience: People who want to take a vacation in a hotel dedicated entirely to beer and all things sudsy.

The world’s first-ever beer-themed hotel opens Monday, Aug. 27, at the craft brewer’s Canal Winchester brewery.

Bookings are open to the public.

The 32-room DogHouse is the world’s first hotel to offer guests a night’s stay inside a brewery, giving guests the opportunity to watch the brewers at work from rooms overlooking the company’s brewing facility.

The hotel’s front desk has been replaced with a lobby bartender who will check guests in while they enjoy a complimentary beer and each room in the hotel — including the 645-square-foot Brewmaster suite and the 460-square-foot Punk suite — features a fully stocked beer fridge, a personal keg bar that will be activated as soon as guests purchase a growler of BrewDog brew, and a built-in shower beer fridge, among other beer-centric amenities aimed at creating “the ultimate immersive beer utopia,” according to the company website.

“From welcome pints of Punk IPA and malt massages to brewery views and shower beers, this will be the world’s first and only fully-immersive craft beer experience from check in to check out,” BrewDog co-founder James Watt said.

In addition to the hotel, BrewDog USA has also unveiled plans for a 6,000-square-foot on-site, interactive beer museum, which will provide “a journey through the brewing process, a deep dive into the history of craft beer, and a hands-on experience of ‘the fundamental four’ ingredients that contribute to the creation of a craft beer.”

BrewDog is also expanding its brewery to include a sour beer facility set to open in late 2018. Common in Belgium, sour beer has an intentionally acidic, tart or sour taste because the process employs wild yeast and bacteria.

Construction is currently underway for BrewDog’s second DogHouse hotel, scheduled to open in 2019 on a 3.25-acre site adjacent to BrewDog’s headquarters in Ellon, Scotland.
