COLUMBUS – Columbus police had not identified by early Friday the two men who were in a car that drove into a pond at a Southeast Side apartment complex overnight, leaving one of those men dead and the other clinging to life.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., the car drove into the pond at the intersection of Shore Boulevard East and Lakeside South in the Hartford on the Lakes apartment complex near Eastland Mall, said Det. Shane Karnes of the Accident Investigation Unit.
Both men were rescued by Columbus Division of Fire personnel and taken to Grant Medical Center, Karnes said.
One of the men was pronounced dead at the hospital while the other remains in life-threatening condition.
The accident is still under investigation.
