NEWARK – Police in Newark say one person died and three others were hospitalized in a 24-hour outbreak of drug overdoses this week.

Newark Division of Fire and EMS personnel administered 18 doses of the anti-overdose medication naloxone Sunday and Monday, police spokesman Sgt. Cliff Eskins said.
Three of the victims were taken to Licking Memorial Hospital, Eskins said.
Newark police officers have been issued naloxone while on patrol to combat drug overdoses, Eskins said.
The Newark Addiction Recovery Initiative was also introduced in the city in June 2016. It provides assistance to addicts seeking help in recovering from their drug dependency. NARI can be reached by calling 740-670-7213 or 740-670-7200.
