1 killed, 4 hurt in Hilliard crash

COLUMBUS – An 83-year-old Hilliard woman was killed and four other people injured in an accident that shut down roads and exit ramps in Hilliard during Tuesday afternoon’s rush hour.

A tractor-trailer exiting I-270 northbound at Cemetery Road at 3:24 p.m. failed to stop at the traffic signal and struck three vehicles on Cemetery Road before rolling over, according to the Hilliard Division of Police ‘s social media feeds.

Charlotte Finck, who was in the front passenger seat of a car driven by her granddaughter, 36-year-old Sarah Popovich, which was hit by the truck, died later at Riverside Methodist Hospital, where Popovich, of Columbus, in remains in critical condition, police spokeswoman Andrea Litchfield said.

Two other women and the driver of the truck were treated at area hospitals and released.

A 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Bakhadir Kuzikov, 57, of Dayton, exited the northbound lanes of I-270 at Cemetery Road at 3:24 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and failed to stop at the red light at the top of the ramp, striking Popovich’s 2006 Ford 500, which was stopped at the light, Litchfield said.

Popovich’s car struck a 2011 Honda Odyssey, driven by Jill Gillen, 45, of Upper Arlington, which was traveling westbound through the intersection on Cemetery Road and which then collided with a 2014 Hyundai Tuscon, driven by Kimberly Vance, 58, of Columbus, which also traveling through the intersection, Litchfield said.

Kuzikov was treated at OSU Wexner Medical Center and released late
Tuesday evening.

Gillen and Vance were taken to Dublin Methodist Hospital, where Litchfield says they were also treated and released on Tuesday.

The accident was caught on a police cruiser’s dashboard-mounted camera.

The investigation and cleanup forced police to shut down Cemetery Road at Trueman Boulevard and to close the exit from the northbound lanes of I-270 to Fishinger Road for several hours.

Kuzikov is a self-employed truck driver operating under the business
name Simbad LLC, of Tipp City, Litchfield said.

The crash remains under investigation and Litchfield said no charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
