1 teen killed, 1 injured in shooting outside school

COLUMBUS – A 14-year-old boy is dead and a teenage girl in the hospital after police say an argument outside an East Side elementary school turned violent Wednesday night.

Jaykwon Sharp and Miracle Carolina, both 14, were shot on a sidewalk near Shady Lane Elementary School just before 7:00 p.m. by someone detectives say Sharp was arguing with, Homicide Unit investigators said.

Officers found the two at 6:51 p.m. and paramedic from Columbus and Whitehall took them to area hospitals, police said.

Sharp was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m. but police say Carolina is expected to recover from a wound in the leg.

Detectives identified a person of interest who was believed to have barricaded themselves inside a home nearby but, according to a report by WBNS 10-TV, when SWAT officers made entry at about — around 2:30 a.m. they did not find anyone inside and Boxill says detectives are searching for a teenage suspect.

This is the 43rd homicide in Columbus in 2019.
