10 shooting incidents leave 9 hurt

COLUMBUS – Nine people were shot over the weekend in Columbus, including five people who were injured in a flurry of a half dozen shooting incidents reported over a span of less than four hours late Saturday and early Sunday, police said.

The violence continued into Monday morning, when a 30-year-old woman was stabbed numerous times and was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, though police say Keona Keese’s condition was upgraded to critical and she is expected to survive.

Keese was found by officers responding to a report of a woman screaming for help in the 22– block of Medina Avenue in North Linden just after 4:40 a.m. She was suffering from injuries to her head, face and wrist, Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Unit said.

The officers rendered first aid before Keese was taken to the hospital.

Seven men and four females, including two 16-year-old girls, were shot in 10 separate incidents between Friday afternoon and Sunday night.

One of the teens was shot while walking with her cousin in the area of Lonsdale Road and Lonsdale Place North on the East Side just before 10:30 p.m. Friday.

She was in stable condition and is expected to survive. An unidentified man was walking nearby at the time and detectives believe that he was the intended target.

The second 16-year-old victim was shot in the arm while sitting at the dining-room table of a home in the 2300 block of Apple Street on the Hilltop at 1:37 a.m. Sunday morning, police said.

She was one of five people shot in six incidents reported between 10:25 p.m. Saturday and 1:44 a.m. Sunday, when a 27-year-old man was shot in the stomach during a robbery at a Shell gas station at E. Hudson Street and I-71 in the Linden neighborhood.

A man and woman whose vehicle was struck by gunfire near the intersection of E. 15th and Hamilton Avenues escaped without injury.

An 18-year-old man was shot just after 10:45 p.m. Saturday following a crash near the intersection of State Route 161 and Cleveland Avenue on the Northeast Side. Police say Faud Abdi told them the driver of the other vehicle involved fired at him as Abdi drove away, hitting him three times in the legs.

A 47-year-old woman was in stable condition after being shot while driving in the 1100 block of Weber Road Sunday night. Her passenger was not injured.

A 21-year-old man walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound to the face he told police he received when someone in a gold GMC SUV fired at his vehicle near the intersection of Hall and Norton Roads on the West Side Friday night.

A 31-year-old man was in the hospital and expected to survive after being shot in the back while driving in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Morse Road just before noon Saturday. Sean Jones told investigators he was on the way home from work when someone in a white or gray car that had been following him fired several rounds into Jones’s vehicle. Jones tried to drive himself to the hospital but crashed his vehicle near E. Hudson Street and Dresden Street.
