COLUMBUS – A major South Side interchange will remain closed through the weekend after a bridge was damaged in a crash Fridsay afternoon.

Ohio Department of Transportation officials say State Route 104 and U.S. 23 (High Street) arclosed closed in all directions after the bridge over SR 104 was damaged when it was struck by a truck at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The contractor charged wuth repairing the bridge, Complete General Construction was on the scene Saturday morning to remove the damaged sections of the overpass.

Crews were expected to work all day on four steel beams that were damaged so badly that part of the beam broke off.

The I-beam supports the bridge deck and part of  it will be removed along with a section of pavement that the beam was supporting, ODOT officials said.

Traffic on US 23 and 104 is being maintained through detours.

The goal is to have all lanes of 104 open by the Monday morning commute and some lanes of US 23.
