11-year-old arrested with gun in school

COLUMBUS – An 11-year-old boy was arrested Monday in the latest case of a juvenile bringing a gun into a Columbus City Schools building.

The youth was among several students detained shortly after noon, when after he was found carrying a firearm magazine inside Champion Middle School, 284 N. 22nd Street, and a gun was recovered from a room in which the student had been seen, according to officers with the Gun Crimes Unit.

Officers arrived and made contact with school security and staff, who informed them that multiple students were detained out of the incident.

Police recovered a firearm and a firearm magazine from school staff and the student was charged with illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon in a school safety Zone and illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone.
