11-year-old killed on busy street

COLUMBUS – Columbus police are asking for anyone who saw a fatal traffic accident on the East Side Wednesday morning to come forward to help them find a vehicle that drove away after running over an 11-year-old girl.

The girl, identified as a sixth-grade student at Sherwood Middle School, was crossing from the west side of McNaughten Road to the east side, between E. Main Street and Cherry Hill Drive, at approximately 6:23 a.m. when she was struck by a Hyundai Santa Fe driven in the northbound lane by Lisa Wolf, 61, of Pickerington, Sgt. Broke Wilson, of the Columbus police Accident Investigation Unit, said.

The girl was knocked into the southbound lane where Wilson says an unknown southbound vehicle ran over her and drove away.

Columbus fire personnel pronounced the girl dead at the scene.

This investigation is continuing.

If anyone has any information regarding this crash or the car that left the scene, they should contact Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.

Of the 45 traffic fatalities this year in Columbus, police say 20 of the victims have been pedestrians.
