12 die on roads over holiday weekend

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting that 12 people lost died on Ohio roadways during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, two more than last year.

The patrol says there were 11 fatal traffic crashes during the reporting period Friday through Monday. During last year’s holiday period, July 2-5, a total of eight fatal crashes killed 10 people, said patrol superintendent Col. Paul Pride.

Some kind of impairment was proven to be a factor in four of the fatal crashes this year, compared with last year when three OVI-related fatal crashes that killed three people.

Pride says troopers made 673 arrests for impaired driving, 325 for drug-related charges and responded to 655 crashes.
