NEWARK – A 12-year-old Newark boy was killed when he was struck by two vehicles while crossing a street on his bicycle Friday afternoon.
Newark police and fire personnel responding to a report of a crash involving a bicycle in the 900 block of N. 2st Street at 5:49 p.m. found Timothy Saunders dead from his injuries, Newark police spokesman Sgt. Clint Eskins said.
The initial investigation indicates the boy was riding eastbound across N. 21st Street outside a crosswalk when he was first struck by a vehicle in the left hand northbound lane and then another vehicle in the right lane, Eskins said.
Eskins says the investigation is continuing but alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash.
