COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police say a 14-year-old girl was shot to death while hanging out with friends on a Franklinton street late Monday night.
UPDATE: As a result of tips from the community, police arrested Donald Loper IV, 16, and charged him with a count of murder.
Detectives say their preliminary investigation shows Amanda Kirwin was talking with some friends in front of 147 Dana Avenue just before 11:45 p.m. when shots were fired from the east side of the street, hitting the girl in the upper body. She died about 45 minutes later at Mt. Carmel West Hospital.
Witnesses told police a male fled the scene eastbound on foot immediately after the shots were fired.
This is the 62nd homicide of 2014.
