COLUMBUS – Police say a teen riding in a vehicle was shot to death on a North Linden street Wednesday night, though they are not certain whether the bullet that killed the 14-year-old came from inside the car or outside.
Officers called to the area of Medina Avenue and E. Hudson Street on a report of a shooting at 9:20 p.m. found the boy suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, lying in the street a short distance away at the intersection of Medina and Loretta Avenue, according to Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide unit.
The teenager died later at Grant Medical Center.
Marable says the teen was in a vehicle with several other individuals when they encountered a group of males walking near the intersection of Republic Avenue and Medina Avenue.
Detectives were not sure early Thursday whether the two groups exchanged gunfire or if the teen was wounded from shots fired from within the car he was riding in, which fled the scene. Marable said.
This is the 57th homicide in Columbus in 2020.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
