14-year-old shot to death

COLUMBUS – The latest homicide victim in Columbus was a 14-year-old boy shot to death on the Southeast Side Wednesday.

Officers responding to a reported shooting in the 2800 block of Tennyson Boulevard at 1:31 p.m. found the teen, who was transported to Mt. Carmel East hospital and was pronounced dead at 2:07 p.m., Sgt. Eric Pilya of the Homicide Unit said.

This is the 26th homicide of 2021 in Columbus.

Investigators released no information on any suspects.

Two men were shot during separate robbery attempts.

John Brunner, 79, told police a man approached him at a Shell gas station at E. Livingston Avenue and Alum Creek Drive just after 6:00 a.m. and demanded Brunner give him everything he had, Det. Dery Kowalski of the Felony Assault Unit said. Brunner refused to give the suspect anything and told investigators the man fired multiple gunshots at him.

Brunner was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition, Kowalski said.

A few minutes later, officers responded to a reported shooting at 1769 Lockbourne Road found Matthew Lewis inside a vehicle which had struck a house, Sgt. James Jardine said.

Lewis, 36, taken to an area hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was listed in stable condition, Jardine said.

Investigators determined that Lewis was approached by a man who got out of a silver Ford 4-door with a handgun and attempted to carjack him at the Sunoco gas station at 1711 Lockbourne Road and shot Lewis in his vehicle as Lewis was driving away, Jardine said.
