15 same-sex couples to wed in 1 big ceremony

COLUMBUS – Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman will do the honors for more than a dozen same-sex couples who will be tying their respective knots in front of City Hall Saturday to mark the recent landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states.

Coleman will officiate at the marriages of 15 couples in Portman Plaza, on the south side of City Hall in an event, called “Vowed and Proud,” sponsored by Stonewall Columbus.

In a 5-4 decision on June 26, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution’s guarantees of due process and equal protection under the law mean that states cannot ban same-sex marriages, striking down bans in Ohio and several other states.
