COLUMBUS – Columbus police say they have arrested one of the teenage suspects in the beating of a 71-year-old man during a home invasion-style robbery last month.
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy they say was one of the teens (pictured, above) who broke into the man’s home on Basil Drive August 25, beat him severely and stole his car, Det. Phillip Thomas of the Major Crimes Bureau’s Robbery Unit said.
The teen was located by detectives and detained by patrol officers at approximately 7:00 p.m. Monday evening in the 3400 block of E. Livingston Avenue and charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, felonious assault and auto theft, Thomas said.
The suspect’s name was not released because he is a juvenile.
The investigation is ongoing and additional suspects are still being sought, including the second teen involved in the robbery and a man seen driving the victim’s car before it was found abandoned, Thomas said.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call the Columbus Division of Police Robbery Unit at 614-645-4665 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
