16-year-old killed in early-morning crash

COLUMBUS – A 16-year-old girl was killed and three other people injured in a crash on the Northeast Side early Monday morning.

A 2007 Chevrolet Aveo was driving northbound on Sunbury Road, just north of Chiller Lane, shortly after 2:00 a.m. when the car crossed the centerline into the southbound lanes and struck a 2014 Chrysler 200 Jennifer Williams, Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Accident Investigation Unit said.

Columbus Division of Fire and Clinton Township Fire units responded to scene and transported two occupants of the Aveo and the lone occupant of the other vehicle to area hospitals.

Shrissa Holmes, 16, who was riding in the Aveo, was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital where she died later, Wilson said.

Jaiana Smith, 15, who was also riding in the Aveo, was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where she was listed in stable condition, and the third occupant, 16-year-old Kiyaire Blow, was treated at scene, Wilson said.

Williams, 44, the lone occupant of the Chrysler, was taken to to Mt. Carmel East Hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

The Accident Investigation Unit responded and initiated an investigation into the cause of the crash as well as the identity of the Aveo’s driver, Wilson said.
