18-year-old is city’s 112th homicide of 2017

COLUMBUS – Police are investigating separate shooting incidents Monday that left an 18-year-old dead on the West Side and a 17-year-old injured.

Police received multiple calls regarding multiple gunshots that were heard in the area in the rear of 263 S. Souder Avenue approximately 8:00 p.m. and that someone had been shot, said Sgt. Stanley Latta of the Homicide Unit.

Isaiah Hoskins, 18, was found and taken to Mt. Carmel West Hospital where Latta says he died a few minutes later, the 112th homicide victim of the year in Columbus

There were no known suspects or motives early Tuesday but Latta says the investigation was continuing.

A few hours earlier, officers dispatched to the 5000 block of Mapleridge Drive, on the Far East Side, found 17-year-old Darell Oliver suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Assault Unit investigators.

Oliver told police he had been in a fight with a male less than an hour before bullets were fired into his home and he was struck by gunfire.

Police believe that the same individuals were involved but the incident is still under investigation.
